Creating Short URL's

I've recently been involved in a project whereby we'll convert a long URL into a short URL. This is by no means a new service - some sites have been doing this for ages.
What we did this time round is get a really, really short url - something memorable too… So we bought url.co.uk.
We decided that we'd start off by offering something 'new' as well - where possible, we'll check the destination URL against a frequently updated database of known phishing sites. We don't want to send you and your visitors to a malicious site that looks like Paypal, but isn't Paypal!
We've got more features in the pipeline, but I'd urge you to give it a shot, and see what you think.
As always, I'd appreciate any comments you have on the service!

Just got here through stuffbysarah.net - I think you've done a good job. My only suggestion would be to set up a .htaccess redirect so anyone going to http://www.url.co.uk will end up at url.co.uk, for optimum shortness.
I'll pass the link around instead of tinyurl.com I think

Thanks for pointing that out - I'm not quite sure why that wasn't done in the first place, but it's doing it now!

Something I saw at another website was that quite a lot of pod casts will quote URLs, which are nearly meaningless.
One shortening URL service uses real words (like Mohawk or picture) after the URL to make it more pronounceable

Excellent domain name…how is the site going? (I see it's been running for some time now)
What kind of sites are using the service and are you going to monetise the site.. if so how?

I recommend you to check wheter the url already exists. It seems to generate new ids for the same input, which unecessarily wastes IDs
